Essex Militia on Tour

The Essex Militia Restoration Living history page
The Essex Militia Restoration Living history page, We not only cover the Wars of the three kingdoms but also the period from 1660 onwards. When England restored the King, Charles II as Ruler, albeit as a much reduced monarchy unlike most of Europe. However England became a strong political as well as a military power with the partnership of a strong Parliament and constutional Monarch.

The Essex Militia, reliving a day in the life of the restored King
The King Charles, II receiving a petition from one of his Courtiers whilst Nel Gywnne looks on. The location being the Kings House, Mewmarket. One of the Kings (many) vices was his love of horses and races so he had a house built in Newmarket, Suffolk (being then as well as now, the centre of Horse Racing) just for this.

The Essex Militia shows a Restoration Display
On this page are some pictures taken during Restoration events. We try to bring back the style of the period by reliving life as CourtiersHere the King strolls with one of his favorite ladies, with the Courtiers, Soldiers and the common. Once again we rely on primary sources for the background to the event. All the costumes worn have been researched back to primary sources to be as authentic as possible.

The King visting Newmarket and meeting up with one of his favourite "actresses", Mistress Nell Gwynne.

Whilst the Soldiers protect the King , the Courtiers vie for his attention with the Ladies of the Court whilst enjoying the food and drink
